In the small village town of Tremolat, France is a gorgeous four star hotel. Loaded with charm and ambiance, a great restaurant and a garden with beautiful plants and flowers. Never before or since have I seen so many spectacular clematis in bloom as I have at this hidden treasure.

Purple Clematis
Another harbinger of spring, the clematis comes in various colors and shapes. Singles, doubles, white, pinks and purples. The intricate centers present an unusual texture and start to turn brown as they age.

French Clematis
If you're ever in the Dordogne region of France, be sure to stop and have lunch at Le Bistro Den in the little town of Tremalot. The food is exquisite and a walk around town afterwards is a treat. I found this double clematis at the 4 star hotel "Le Vieux Logis".

Sarlat Clematis

Last year when we visited Sarlat it was a very rainy day. But this year we were blessed with sunshine. And what a difference it made. This 6th century medieval town came to life in the sun. These clematis were climbing up the side of a stone house flaunting all their glory.
